New South African telescope to promote the sciences
A new telescope installed at North West University is expected to help find answers to some of
the age-old questions humans ask, such as where do we come from. It will also be used in
outreach efforts to inspire an interest among students and others in the sciences.
South African university plans telescope
A R70-million telescope is planned for the University of KwaZulu-Natal. The Hirax will be the
university's legacy project, and will allow its astronomers to look back in time, to a few billion
years after the beginning of time. It will consist of a thousand dishes of 6m in diameter each.
South African and Indian scientists team up

MeerKAT reaches another milestone
