The Gift of the Givers has a search and rescue and a medical team in Nepal. Its trauma specialists are running seven theatres in five hospitals carrying out major surgical procedures, while the search and rescue teams comb rural areas. It is also supplying food and tents.

President Jacob Zuma has sent his condolences to Nepal after Saturday's 7.9 magnitude earthquake left an estimated 5 000 dead. The Department of International Relations and Co- operation has meanwhile confirmed that all the South Africans in the region have been accounted for.
