Three African currencies to trade on SA exchange
The Johannesburg Stock Exchange, the largest and most liquid on the continent, has
listed three African currencies on a new foreign exchange futures platform on Friday.
The JSE said this would offer investors exposure to African economies in a relatively
risk-free manner.
SAB Miller offer lifts JSE
The JSE traded 0.25% stronger to start the week on Monday following news that the
second largest brewer and JSE-listed company SAB Miller (SAB) made an offer to
Heineken after the world's largest brewer, Anheuser-Busch InBev, made a takeover
offer of the company. Heineken refused the offer, making SAB Miller more vulnerable
to an unwanted takeover offer.
African pension fund giant relists on JSE
Africa's biggest retirement fund administrator, Alexander Forbes, on Thursday became the 11th company to list on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange this year. The company listed with a market capitalisation of around R10.9-billion, putting it into the top 25% of firms listed on the bourse.
Arqaam Capital joins JSE, eyes Africa
Dubai-based investment bank Arqaam Capital has become the newest equity member of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) - an indication the confidence of other emerging markets in South Africa as a financial gateway to sub-Saharan Africa.
