Amended legislation to ease doing business in South Africa

Amendments to the National Environmental Management and the Mineral and Petroleum Development Acts will soon see a smoother process to licensing in the mining sector, improving the climate for investment in the country.

Mining Indaba: Growing population to boost Africa’s mineral development

 

Speaking at the 2014 Mining Indaba, Minerals Resources Minister Susan Shabangu said a growing world population was a good sign for Africa's development; Red Door Research's Jim Lennon echoed this, saying China's development needs would mean strong demand for the continent's resources.

Kumba to invest R8.5bn in new mine

Kumba Iron Ore has announced plans to invest R8.5-billion into developing the new Sishen South mine near the town of Postmasburg in the Northern Cape, with production scheduled to start in 2012. The ore, aimed primarily at the export market, will be transported by rail to Saldanha Bay.
