South Africa’s portfolio committee on energy is pushing National Assembly to ratify the treaty with the Democratic Republic of Condo (DRC) on the Grand Inga Hydropower Project, paving the way for the construction of the Inga 3 hydro project set to provide 500 MW of electricity to South Africa.

The Cabinet has approved the treaty on the Grand Inga hydropower project between South Africa and the DRC, paving the way for what could become the largest hydroelectric project in the world, with the potential to power half the continent.

The latest phase of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project, the largest bi-national construction project on the continent, is complete.
