South African journalists won a number of categories in the 20th CNN MultiChoice African Journalist Awards. The awards were handed out in Nairobi, Kenya, this past weekend. Keynote speaker President Uhuru Kenyatta praised the journalists' efforts to tell their own African stories.

To overcome the problem of high youth unemployment, young South Africans should look to running their own small businesses – and be taught how to do it from a young age. This was one of the ideas discussed at the Brand South Africa breakfast forum with CNN anchor Richard Quest on 13 May 2013.

The debate was lively when straight-talking CNN anchor Richard Quest hosted Brand South Africa CEO Miller Matola, Telkom chair Jabu Mabuza and Goldman Sachs MD Colin Coleman at a breakfast forum discussing African economic growth on Tuesday 13 May.

At the start of the Oscar Pistorius trial, celebrity US lawyer Alan Dershowitz suggested on CNN that Pistorius would not get justice as South Africa was a "failed state", and the trial "racial".
