It was a warm and lovely Saturday morning in Soweto when Brand South Africa visited Maponya Mall, bringing with it up-lifting performances and great fun for all.
It was a day to celebrate good deeds and prove that there is a way for everyone to share the loveThe visit, on 13 July, was held to raise awareness of the organisation’s Play Your Part initiative. Activities began at 10am with a performance from the Dance Against Drugs crew. They drew in the crowd, and the audience grew bigger throughout the day.
They were encouraged to sing and chant the Play Your Part song like a war cry, and the sound got louder and louder as passionate people played their part. Prizes were also handed out to people in the audience.
It was a day to celebrate good deeds and prove that there is a way for everyone to share the love. Other activities, such as modelling contests in which the audience got to take part, brought laughter to many. People also had the chance to speak their minds and let others know what they were doing to help others.
This was an event for all ages – older women got up on stage and danced, and toddlers also got the chance to shine, reminding the audience that they were the country’s future leaders in the making.
Play Your Part South Africa aims to encourage positivity by helping or showing the goodness found in people’s hearts. It will undertake similar visits in all nine provinces, moving from villages to towns to cities. The aim is to spread the art of giving back, along with presenting ideas on how people can go about giving back.

Its objective is to lift the spirit of the nation by inspiring all South Africans to contribute to positive change, become involved and start doing – because a nation of people who care deeply for one another and the environment in which they live is good for everyone, according to the organisation.
Play Your Part targets all South Africans, from corporates to individuals, NGOs to the government, churches to schools, young to not so young, encouraging them to use some of their time, money, skills or goods to contribute to a better future for all.
There are numerous opportunities, big and small, for each and every South African to make a positive difference in the communities in which they live and operate. Play Your Part encourages them to act on these opportunities, says the group.
