Johannesburg, Tuesday 6 May 2014 – Brand South Africa wishes to clarify an article in Business Day regarding the World Economic Forum Africa (WEF Africa) meeting to be held from 7 to 9 May in Abuja, Nigeria.

It is regrettable that the article published today by the newspaper does not quote the correspondence to stakeholders in its entirety, nor does it mention that the correspondence referred only to Brand South Africa staff who, while not accredited to attend the WEF Africa meeting, were scheduled to travel to Abuja to manage the country’s communication programme.

A strong South African contingent accredited to attend the WEF Africa meeting will still travel to Abuja.

Due to being non-accredited support staff and being accommodated outside of the secured zone, the Brand South Africa team would not receive the courtesies being provided to accredited WEF Africa delegates.

Brand South Africa will, however, continue with its planned programme for WEF Africa, including the Brand South Africa Dialogue that will be hosted in partnership with CNBC Africa on 7 May.

Brand South Africa reiterates its commitment to ensuring Team South Africa receives the highest level of support during the forum.
