JOHANNESBURG, 15 October 2013 – Brand South Africa will, as part of mobilising all citizens to join the conversation on the country’s competitiveness, host various stakeholders in Cape Town on Thursday 17 October 2013.
Stakeholders from local government, business and civil society will deliberate on the concepts related to competitiveness and how South Africa can become more competitive as a destination of choice for, amongst others, foreign direct investment and tourism. The National Development Plan and its implementation will be a critical driver of the country’s competitiveness and positive reputation.
The outcomes of these regional discussions will form the basis of deliberations at South Africa’s inaugural competitiveness forum on 5 November 2013 at Gallagher Estate in Midrand.
Brand South Africa CEO Miller Matola said, “South Africans must actively participate in building a strong future for the country. These stakeholder engagements are opportunities for citizens to get involved and have their say. The SA Competitiveness Forum is a strategic platform through which Brand South Africa intends to work with government, business and civil-society stakeholders to identify competitive strengths and weaknesses in our economy. By working together we can achieve the goals of poverty alleviation, job creation and the long term targets set by the NDP.”
Participants in the South African Competitiveness Forum will dialogue on issues related to the following areas:
- Education, skills & labour;
- Products and services;
- Governance and leadership;
- Infrastructure; and
- FDI competitiveness
Brand South Africa’s Head of Research, Dr Petrus de Kock, will host Thursday’s stakeholder session, and will unpack where the country is currently positioned on global competitiveness indices.
The countrywide consultations are intended to mobilise and encourage stakeholders in all spheres of South African society to be part of the national conversation about the future of the country and the role that they can play. The Western Cape engagement will be followed by one in KwaZulu-Natal later this month.
