Cape Town has again proved to all and sundry it is one of the ultimate destinations in the world for travellers.
A survey commissioned by Swiss-based tourism company GetYourGuide and travel search engine GoEuro.com has found that out of a staggering 1 830 cities, Cape Town is ranked 24th for being an “Ultimate Fun City’.
GetYourGuide and GoEuro compiled data based on 11 factors to define what exactly makes a city fun for travellers of different age groups and interests. The factors include average beer price, bars, clubs, sport clubs, activities, shopping, museums and concerts.
Cape Town scored very well for its sport clubs and did fairly well in activities. The world’s top three cities on the list are Berlin in first place, London in second, Paris in third and New York City in fourth place.
In October this year, Cape Town was voted fourth out of the world’s 25 must-see cities in the Conde Nast Traveler Reader’s Choice Awards. Cape Town beat cities like Rome, Barcelona and San Francisco.
The city also came out tops in the Conde Nast list of the best 15 hotels in Africa. The One&Only, Ellerman House, Mount Nelson, Twelve Apostles and Cape Cadogan hotels grabbed the first five positions, the Cape Grace ninth place, the Table Bay Hotel 10th and the Victoria & Alfred Hotel 15Th.
On 5 November at the World Responsible Tourism Awards held in the UK, Cape Town proved its worth yet again as an award-winning tourist attraction. Two city establishments, Hotel Verde and the V&A Waterfront, walked away with accolades.
Hotel Verde in Cape Town won gold in the Best City Hotel for Responsible Tourism category and the V&A Waterfront walked away with gold for Best Destination for Responsible Tourism.
