Brand South Africa will take part in observing Nelson Mandela International Day through its flagship programme, Play Your Part.

“Its objective is to lift the spirit of our nation by inspiring all South Africans to contribute to positive change, become involved and start doing,” Brand South Africa explained. “Because a nation of people who care deeply for one another and the environment in which they live is good for everyone.”

Play Your Part is a nationwide programme that aims to encourage South Africans to actively participate in improving their communities. This is in line with the National Development Plan, South Africa’s blueprint for economic development and social cohesion by eliminating poverty and reducing inequality by 2030.

In efforts to improve lives, Brand South Africa will take part in initiatives across the country.

Mponegele Ke Itirele Orphanage Centre

The agency will help to refurbish and spruce up the Mponegele Ke Itirele Orphanage Centre in Limpopo.

It will also take part in the Mayoral Nelson Mandel Day celebrations on 18 July – Mandela’s birthday – at ZZ2 Farm where farm workers and the children from the orphanage will gather to celebrate.

The workers will teach the children about farming, which will give the children the skills needed to grow their very own vegetable garden at the orphanage.

Blitz Clean Up Day

On 17 July, Brand South Africa staff will join other citizens in cleaning up London Road and Juskei River in Alexandra, in northern Johannesburg. The initiative is part of the wider Green Economy Sustainable Job Creation Concept under the banner of #GreeningAlex.

“Having a cleaner Alexandra will make the area more attractive to investors and business people, which will contribute to economic development and job creation and will therefore improve the lives of the community,” the country’s marketing agency explained.

Other projects

Thebe Ikalafeng, a Brand South Africa director, has joined South African celebrities in climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. They are expected to summit Africa’s highest peak on 18 July.

The #Trek4Mandela climbers aim to raise funds to keep 270 000 girls in school.

In addition, in partnership with the Gem Project, Brand South Africa has developed a Play Your Part app that contains a number of organisations needing assistance from South Africans.

The app is a social development drive that aims to mobilise communities within themselves so that they can help each other rise – including the provision of clothing, assistance with homework, job shadowing and skills development.
