South African coffee shop named best in world

Described as a steam-punk inspired, relaxed meeting place for Cape Town’s hip and happening crowd, Truth Coffee features hand-roasted blends created onsite and an immeasurably cool atmosphere. It’s a combination so appealing, it’s landed Truth back at the top of the list of best coffee shops in the world, according to the UK’s Daily Telegraph newspaper.

It’s the second year running the coffee shop has grabbed the top slot.

Its old-timey industrial charm, created with leather and steel art pieces and decorative installations by some of the city’s best artists, is part of the appeal of the coffee shop. But above all, as voted by the newspaper’s readers, the coffee at Truth is near perfect, elaborately presented with the most original foam art by its inspired baristas.

A friendly and welcoming atmosphere tops off one of the best coffee-drinking experiences in the Mother City, and now, officially, in the world. The food menu, something often overlooked in coffee culture, also comes highly recommended, with a wide selection of freshly baked confectionaries and light lunches.

Truth topped rival coffee shops in Turkey (Fazil Bey in Istanbul), Italy (Rome’s Sant Eustachio Cafe) and the Barista Parlor in Nashville, Tennessee, which was voted the best coffee shop in America by the Buzzfeed website.

Other contenders included coffee shops in Sweden, Singapore and Australia.

Truth enjoys a four-star rating on TripAdvisor, based on over 200 positive reviews, making it one of the top 50 eateries in the city. Situated around the corner from the District Six Museum and other well-known Cape Town attractions, the shop is popular with tourists and locals alike.

Truth also won the best coffee shop category in the 2015 Eat Out Mercedes- Benz Best Everyday Eateries for the Western Cape, and was nominated for the Boschendal Style Award in the 2015 Eat Out Mercedes-Benz Restaurant Awards.

Being one of the hippest hangouts in Cape Town, Truth is naturally popular with the most fashionable social media personalities, particularly on Instagram and Twitter.
