Last week, as the country celebrated WAFCON winners Banyana Banyana, Brand South Africa in collaboration with gsport hosted a Business Breakfast at the Imperial Wanderer’s Stadium, Sandton to launch their annual awards. The Momentum gsport Awards are the leading national women’s sport recognition platform. More than 200 winners have been honoured since inception.
The purpose of the breakfast session was to discuss the importance of supporting and recognising women in sports in South Africa, as well as the role and importance of corporate investment in advancing women’s sports.
The breakfast, attended by prominent female sports people around South Africa, included the Banyana Banyana team, the Confederation of African Football (CAF), coach of the year Desiree Ellis, South Africa wheelchair tennis player Kgothatso Montjane and South African swimmer Natalie du Toit.
“Our women’s sport needs its own commercial structure in order to ensure sustainable growth,” said Kass Naidoo, the founder of Momentum gsport.
Over 20 prestigious awards will be handed out on 14 September 2022 at the 17th edition of the awards, marking 16 years since the launch of the initiative.
Brand South Africa applauds Banyana Banyana for playing their part in flying the flag for South Africa and for being the role models to the younger generation of young girls to reach for their dreams.
