Ahead of this year’s Olympic Games, we look back at South Africa’s highlights in the global sporting competition. Following its readmittance to international sport in 1992, South Africa has steadily improved its medal tally.
In 1991, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) visited South Africa. Seeing the country’s move towards democracy as a positive step, the organisation invited the country to participate in the 1992 Olympic Games, which were held in Barcelona, Spain.
In the run-up to this year’s Games in Rio de Janeiro, we look back at some of the country’s highlights since it began taking part at an international level once more.
