This YEAR, HI HOPES celebrates 10 years of supporting deaf infants and their families. In this time, over 1300 South African families have benefited from our services, allowing them to make informed choices for their deaf or hard of hearing children. Through the variety of communication options and amplification choices we promote, deaf children are given the gift of communication – thanks to the dedication of our staff and generous donations from caring people like you. As we celebrate our birthday, one of our youngest babies – little Kayde, who was born with a hole in his heart, impaired vision and hearing loss – underwent his Cochlear Implant surgery yesterday. Kayde has been a HI HOPES baby since he was two months old and our director, Prof Claudine Storbeck, was standing along side the ENT surgeon during his surgery. Watch this space for an update of Kayde’s progress.
