Basketball opened up the world for Jerome Du Plooy, and now he is using what he has learned and earned to help other children out of a world of poverty and deprivation in the south of Joburg.
As a member of Soweto Kliptown Youth (SKY), a non-governmental organisation that provides an array of services and support to neighbourhood children, Du Plooy caught the attention of NBA Africa while playing basketball for the SKY basketball team. “The NBA saw something in me and ever since then they’ve adopted me,” he says.
