Brand South Africa continues with its Play Your Part / Sowetan Dialogues, with the latest in the series set to take place in Johannesburg on 18 June, with a debate on whether South Africa’s youth are Playing their Part to create a legacy for future generations.

Since the dawn of our democracy in 1994, Youth Day is a day where we commemorate the courageous youth of 1976 who played their part and changed the course of our country’s history.

“In light of the challenges faced by young people, including unemployment, lack of skills and opportunity how can today’s youth Play their Part to create a better tomorrow?” is what the Dialogue seek to answer.

The Dialogue, which takes place at the Nelson Mandela Foundation, will be facilitated by YFM DJ Mo Flava. Panelists include Simamkele Dlakavu, producer of The Big Debate and a One Young World (OYW) Ambassador; Neliswa Fente, co-founder of SpringAGE, a youth-led innovation company; Simon Freemantle, a senior analyist at the Africa Political Economy Unit at Standard Bank; Linda Yolisa Dlova, the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) executive manager for communications; and Nzinga Qunta ANN7 TV presenter.

The Dialogue provides members of the audience with a chance to respond, as well as put forward their views on the topics raised in the President’s State of the Nation address, as well as put forward ideas on how ordinary South Africans can Play their Part to realise their desires and ensure that the government’s plans for their communities are carried out.

The Brand SA Sowetan Dialogues aim to provide a platform for communities to engage with key opinion leaders on key issues, outlined in the National Development Plan (NDP), that affect South Africa. The over-arching message of the dialogues is to encourage community members to Play Their Part in driving the social, developmental and economic change of their communities through active citizenship.
