M-Net Cares hosted their second annual Drive for the Cause National Final in association with Liberty Medical Scheme on 19 November 2012. With sixteen golf days, eight clinics and the National Final, they were able to raise R636 038 for M-Net Naledi Children’s Literacy Project and PinkDrive.
Prizes handed out at the prize-giving dinner included getaways from Riviera on Vaal Hotel and Country Club, Legend Golf and Safari Resort, The Hyatt Regency Oubaai, Phakalane Golf Estate, Sibaya Resort and Casino, Tsogo Sun, PVR Decoders and DStv Walkas.
Riviera on Vaal Hotel and Country Club was also one of many companies to sponsor holes which added an element of fun and value to the golf day. Other prizes from sponsors like TaylorMade, M-Net Cares, DStv and many other companies made the day extra special. Organized by Cloud9Golf, the aim was to help raise funds and awareness for two charity organizations: M-Net Naledi Children’s Literacy Project and PinkDrive.
M-Net Naledi Children’s Literacy Project hosts reading workshops for grade three learners and they also empower teachers in underprivileged schools across the country. In addition to this, libraries and reading corners have been created by M-Net Cares in various schools and homes.
According to M-Net’s Director of Corporate Marketing and Communications, Koo Govender, M-Net Naledi Children’s Literacy Project was able to donate a container library to Sive School for the Deaf in the Eastern Cape through the funds that were raised this year.
They were also able to set up reading corners at various disadvantaged schools. Govender said that the Project’s aim is to reach as many communities and touch as many young learners as possible.
The second charity organization, PinkDrive, creates awareness about breast cancer in disadvantaged communities and provides mammography tests and education as part of their initiative. With the funds raised this year, PinkDrive will be able to continue providing affordable, convenient mammography services to women in underprivileged communities via local clinics, health centers and specified hospitals with no oncology facilities.
The Riviera on Vaal Hotel and Country Club considers taking part in this cause as a privilege and wishes both these charity organizations and all companies assisting in making it possible much success in the future.
