I am here to recommend Bunang Baswa which is a youth not for profit that has helped over 3000 youth since 2006 in over 6 provinces across South Africa. They are now working with 15 schools across South Africa.
With over 5 years of working with both rural and township schools, we have come to a conclusion that school pupils urgently need to be inspired, be capacitated (leadership skills etc) and given information regarding many career fields available to them.
OBJECTIVES HOW WE ACHIEVE THIS: 1. We are running Inspire to Lead capacity building and leadership workshops at schools, which will help learners to cope with high level of school work, be examples in their peers, self-confidence and decrease the high rate of school dropout and under archiving. 2. We go to rural high schools and run Inspire to Lead career guidance (expo), inspirational talks and distribute career publications, bursary applications and tertiary institute applications and information. 3. Identified 20 grade 11 pupils to be part of Inspire to Lead Tour (3 days) all-expense paid for.
We then give them leadership skills, expose them to some universities, their admission requirements and tertiary life, get to know the working environment and give them all necessary skills and support available so that they become ambassadors to their schools and share the info to their peers and thus encouraging the spirit of over achievers in their school.
We work with these individuals closely until they are admitted to tertiary institute of their choice.
All this results in an increased pass rate in particularly high schools (grade 11 and 12) • Literate school pupils that will lead to literate society • Low number of school drop out • Low rate teen age pregnancy thus reducing HIV/AIDS among youth • New grass roots business by youth • Schools that are working as a team for the same purpose, both pupils teachers and SGB. • High self-esteem among school pupils • Outside of the box thinking • Effective leadership skills to the youth • Proper educational resources and infrastructure • Grade 12 pupils who know exactly which career are their going to pursue.
Our project result is in line with the vision 2025 of Department of Basic Education; PUPILS: attend school on time, take school work seriously, have access to computers, sporting and cultural activities, respectable relationship to teachers by pupils.
