The 2nd season of Play Your Part returns to our small screens on Monday, 9 July on SABC1 and the show will be presented by Mmabatho Montsho and Katleho Sinvasan.
The duo are familiar faces on our TV screens and the entertainment scene. They’re both respected in their fields for their talent, creativity and spirit; and they have paved the way for many up and coming talents for the future.
Mmabatho and Katleho will be presenting the second season of Brand South Africa’s Play Your Part television series – an opportunity both actors say they are really excited about.
Mmabatho says that when she was offered the job to present the show, she leaped at the opportunityMmabatho says that when she was offered the job to present the show, she leaped at the opportunity. “The series is a showcase on ordinary South Africans doing extraordinary things. It’s amazing to see how much of a difference we can make in our country when we dedicate ourselves to a cause greater than us.”
Mmabatho is best known for her television role as Lumka Dlomo in the SABC 1 soap Generations and her other leading roles include the e.tv soap Rhythm City, M-Net’s Jacob’s Cross, A Place Called Home and the ground-breaking 90 Plein Street.
She was one of Cosmopolitan’s Awesome Women of 2007, the recipient of a Style Award and a nominee for numerous acting awards. Mmabatho’s love of art and languages led her to start her own fashion label called Black Olive Designs with a high-school friend – a line which was showcased in 2004 at SA Fashion Week.
Katleho Sinivasan, a trained presenter from the National School of The Arts, made his television presenting debut on Yo TV in 2007.
He’s acted in theatre productions such as West Side Story as well as Journey to a Dream. Katleho, also an accomplished singer, recently completed a film, Stolen Time, directed by Eric Miyeni.
Katleho says that the opportunity to present Play Your Part is a dream come true. “It’s a special time for me: I get to do what I love while also seeing South Africans doing great work and deeds for their communities. The show is an inspiration to all South Africans – and for us to see that you do not have to have loads of money and influence to be an agent of positive change. All you have to really do to change your country is just do.”
The show will feature those who play their part in the field of business, sport, inventions and innovations, academics, philanthropy, environment, culture, art and heritage.
Each episode will focus on three characters ranging across the identified fields and include Angela Larkan, a philanthropist who started Thanda After School – an initiative that gives children the resources, environment and skills to grow into healthy and productive individuals.
Other characters include actress Terry Pheto – whose overseas success had brought South African talent under the international spotlight; and house DJ, DJ Zinhle – whose DJ academy is the first to focus on female DJs and nurture their talent, mentors and trains them in the male-dominated industry of music.
