The Gauteng government is to launch onsite construction contact centres, designed to improve delivery of services to small businesses in the construction industry, in 12 districts throughout the province.
Speaking at the launch of Gauteng’s second construction contact centre (CCC) at the Funda Community Centre in Diepkloof, Soweto on Monday, Gauteng Public Transport, Roads and Works MEC Ignatius Jacobs encouraged “all those in the construction industry to use the services that will be offered by our CCC staff, whether technical or financial.”
The province’s first onsite construction contact centre was launched in downtown Johannesburg in March.
Jacobs said the provincial government would, through the CCC concept, provide access to finance and credit, work opportunities, information and advice, skills development, and opportunities for business facilitation between established construction industry players and upcoming entrepreneurs.
“This pertains to better access to local labour, enabling us to collectively address unemployment, so as to ensure ownership of the CCCs and local job creation,” Jacobs said.
The centres aim to provide one-stop shops for emerging contractors and professional service providers to access both financial and technical support.
Skills development will also be provided for, so as to build the capacity of small enterprises and facilitate their further involvement in development processes.
“I hope that not only will you find the services offered to be useful and empowering, but that you in turn will voice your requirements so that the CCC can evolve with you,” Jacobs said.
The centres will be linked across Gauteng, each offering a full range of assessment, advisory, certification, registration, training, financial, administration, communication and networking services from level 1 to 4 SMME contractors, to enable them to become registered entities as well as to attain further statutory registrations.
