South African Airways (SAA) has expanded its presence in the United States, with travellers now offered the choice of flying to and from an additional 15 American cities.

Through a code-sharing agreement with fellow Star Alliance member United Airlines, SAA now offers flights to Atlanta, Austin, Charlotte, Cleveland, Columbus, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Miami, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Raleigh-Durham and St Louis.

Existing code-share locations already serviced by United Airlines include the popular connecting cities of Boston, Chicago, Denver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New Orleans, Orlando, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle and Tampa.

SAA is currently the only airline to offer non-stop flights from the US to South Africa, with daily departures from both Washington DC and New York.

“We’re pleased to offer even more code-share cities throughout the US, allowing travellers unmatched seamless connection capabilities to both New York and Washington DC, our departure cities providing daily flights to South Africa,” said SAA North American vice-president Marc Cavaliere.

United Airlines already offers service via code-shares on South African Airways on 14 routes to southern Africa, including to popular destinations like Johannesburg and Cape Town.

“Enhancing our code-share flights with South African Airways will continue to improve the travel experience for our customers going to and coming from southern Africa,” said Michael Whitaker, United’s senior vice-president for alliances, international and regulatory affairs.

“Whether our customers are looking to scale Table Mountain or work in Johannesburg, we are pleased we can bring them closer to this important business and tourist destination.”

Through its membership of Star Alliance, SAA is able to offer its customers the choice of 852 destinations in 152 countries, with more than 15 000 daily flights.
