Johannesburg residents have been invited to join Brand South Africa’s 2010 Fifa World Cup™ 30-day countdown celebration on Tuesday, with The People’s Bus set to lead a procession of Diski Dancers, Harley Davidson Bikers and celebrities from Newtown to Soweto.
The Bree Taxi Rank, Noord Taxi Rank, Gandhi Square, Jabulani Mall and Maponya Mall will be the places to be for Brand South Africa’s celebratory procession marking just one month until the kick-off of Africa’s first Fifa World Cup™.
The People’s Bus will lead a procession including a Joburg Tourism rig, Harley Davidson bikers and the Metro Police from Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown to Maponya Mall, with South African celebrities Athur, Chomee, Slikour and Sugarmaxx contributing to the programme.
En route, people will be able to join in the procession, with prizes to be won.
“We encourage South Africans to be great hosts,” Brand South Africa CEO Miller Matola said in a statement on Monday. “Let’s show the world our warmth, friendliness and love of the game.
“We should all fly the flag, sing the national anthem with pride, learn the Diski Dance, and celebrate Football Fridays.”
To mark the countdown milestone, Matola said, South Africans should “bring along your Diski Dance moves, as well as your knowledge about all things football. Most of all, though, bring all your uniquely South African passion and energy”.
The People’s Bus offers an interactive 10-minute tour that includes Fifa World Cup team facts and trivia, foosball table fun, and a mini-cinema showing unforgettable moments from previous tournaments.
On exiting the bus, good luck messages – that will be posted on the Brand South Africa and Bafana Bafana website – can be added to the bus message board.
