The Department of Labour on Monday said it was looking to reduce the payout time of the Compensation Fund from 80 days to less than 10 days for deaths and injuries.
Delays in the payout system that caused bottlenecks were being identified to reduce claim processing time, director-general Nkosinathi Nhleko said in a speech delivered at a labour forum in Limpopo.
The fund provides compensation for employees who get hurt at work, or sick from diseases contracted at work, or for death as a result of these injuries or diseases.
Nhleko, who took office in May, would be visiting provinces till August to get a measure of constraints on service delivery.
The Compensation Fund is covered by the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act of 1993 and the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Amendment Act of 1997.
