The second episode of Brand South Africa’s Play Your Part TV series, featuring actress and comedienne Shimmy Isaacs, architect Mokena Makeka and showjumping pioneer Enos Mafokate, broadcasts on SABC 1 at 12h30 on Sunday, 30 October.
The 13-part television series promoting Brand SA’s Play Your Part campaign features inspirational stories of ordinary citizens getting out there to change the lives of others in their neighbourhoods, their communities and their cities.
Brand SA has travelled the length and breadth of the country asking ordinary South Africans how they are playing their part for positive social change, in the process uncovering a range of inspirational stories to share with the nation.
Architect, comedienne, showjumper
This week, the show features actress and comedienne Shimmy Isaacs from Worcester, a small-town girl who made it to the big stage and now uses her performances to spread awareness about breast cancer.
Architect Mokena Makeka has been playing his part via interventions in public spaces around the country, among them the Khayelitsha Recreation centre, Mitchells Plain Police Station, and Cape Town Train Station. He is also among 100 architects chosen to design one of the 100 villas to be built in an ambitious new project in Inner Mongolia China.
Enos Mafokate is a pioneer in the world of show-jumping. History will remember him as the first black person to compete in what was once an exclusively white and affluent sport. Today, from his equestrian school in Soweto, he is passing on his experience to a new generation of champion riders.

‘Each one of us can make a difference’
“There are a number of opportunities, big and small, where each and every one of us can make a positive difference in the communities in which we live and operate,” Brand South Africa CEO Miller Matola said at the launch of the new show.
The TV series “will lift the spirits and inspire all South Africans with examples of how their fellow citizens are creating a South Africa we can all be proud of”.
