Nearly 3 000 more tourists visited wildlife resorts in South Africa’s Limpopo province in December 2012 compared to the previous year, with the world-famous Kruger National Park the province’s biggest drawcard.
The Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA) reported on Wednesday that 56 141 people went through Limpopo Wildlife Resorts gates compared to 53 710 in the same period in 2011.
LTA spokesperson Mike Tauatsoala said reports received from other tourism stakeholders in the province also indicated high occupancy rates during the period. He attribud the increase to successful seasonal and longer term marketing campaigns.
LTA chief executive officer Nocks Seabi said the organisation was pleased that a large number of tourists were Limpopo locals.
He also thanked the service sector for its professionalism. “The level of service rendered to the tourists will definitely ensure repeated visits to the province in general and facilities in particular, thereby contributing to the economic growth of the province,” he said.
LTA board chairman Mashilo Matsetela, Seabi and members of the executive management team took time to visit various resorts and other key destinations in the province.
“This was to observe and monitor tourist influx while interacting with tourists. I must indicate that most of the tourists interviewed expressed satisfaction with the level of service received at most of the tourism facilities in the province,” said Tauatsoala.
